g2Peer gives you a unique ability to share files with your friends from your PC using Gmail accounts. Gmail address is served as unique "IP address" of PC in g2Peer network.
g2Peer should be installed on every PC (unless you use Command Line) and is configured to work with an unique Gmail address through Gmail POP3 or IMAP.
If you would like to share files from your PC with your friends simply add the friend's Gmail addresses to Share Folders - Share with Friends list and map addresses to appropriate folders on your PC.
If you would like to share files from your PC with anonymous users simply activate anonymous sharing option in Share Folders - Share with Anonymous tab and define shared folder on your PC.
The listed friends or anonymous g2Peer users (if anonymous sharing options enabled) could access your shared folders by simply sending specially prepared e-mail "requests" to your Gmail address and receiving list of shared files available for download.
This chapter provides an overview of necessary steps that should be taken to share files between two computers.
First of all, you should have two Gmail accounts; also g2Peer should be installed on both PCs. Assume we have two machines, where Computer Nr.1 Gmail address is comp_nr1@gmail.com; and Computer Nr.2 Gmail address is comp_nr2@gmail.com. To start sharing files between the Computer Nr.1 and Computer Nr.2 listed below configuration steps should be done.
Step 1: Configure every g2Peer to work with its Gmail account through POP3 or IMAP.
Step 2: Start g2Peer on both computers.
Step 3: Add Computer Nr.1 Gmail address to the Computer Nr.2Share Folders - Share with Friends list; also map folder you would like to share with Computer Nr.1. Do the vice verse on Computer Nr.1.
Step 4: That is all with configuring. Now if you would like to get shared files from Computer Nr.2 simply enter Computer Nr.2 Gmail address in g2Peer installed on Computer Nr.1 and wait until you receive list of shared files. Then download files you need. Do the vice verse if you would like to get shared files from Computer Nr.1 to Computer Nr.2.
This chapter provides an overview of necessary steps that should be taken to share files with anonymous users.
First of all, you and anonymous users should have Gmail accounts; also g2Peer should be installed on all PCs. Assume we have two machines, where Anonymous Computer Gmail address is anonymous_comp@gmail.com; and My Computer Gmail address is my_comp@gmail.com. To start sharing files between the Anonymous Computer and My Computer listed below configuration steps should be done.
Step 1: Configure every g2Peer to work with its Gmail account through POP3 or IMAP.
Step 2: Start g2Peer on both computers.
Step 3: Activate anonymous sharing option in Share Folders - Share with Anonymous tab and define folder you would like to share with anonymous users.
Step 4: To get shared files from My Computer anonymous user should enter My Computer Gmail address in g2Peer installed on Anonymous Computer and wait until list of shared files received. Then anonymous user could download needed files.
To get shared files from Computer Nr.2 does not necessary require installation of g2Peer on Computer Nr.1. Just use commands like ?_list or ?_download sent from your Gmail account to Computer Nr.2 Gmail address. Still Computer Nr.2 should have g2Peer installed and your Computer Nr.1 Gmail address should be listed in Share Folders - Share with Friends list (as outlined in Usage Example - Private P2P chapter). It gives you ability to get shared files from any point of the world just login to your Gmail account.
